The air's getting a little crisper, and the leaves are unveiling their vibrant shades of orange and red. It's like Mother Nature's way of saying, "Hey, Halloween is just around the corner!"
Halloween was an absolute blast when I was a kid. I enjoyed coming up with costume ideas and getting my hands messy while carving pumpkins. However, trick-or-treating wasn't all fun and games for me. Most of my candy stash would end up with my friends because I had allergies. I'm not alone in this struggle, and that's where FARE's Teal Pumpkin Project steps in to make Halloween more inclusive.
Neighbors participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project put a teal-painted pumpkin or a sign (printable signs can be found here) on their doorstep/door to let trick-or-treaters know that non-food treats are available. It's like a secret handshake for trick-or-treaters, letting them know they've got non-food treats waiting for them – think stickers, rings, yo-yos, and glow-in-the-dark stuff. FARE put together an impressive map that allows project participants to post their locations, making it easier for trick-or-treaters to find them.
The Teal Pumpkin Project shows that making Halloween a fun experience for all is easy. So, as Halloween draws near, please consider joining the Teal Pumpkin Project.
